Anna was a guest speak on BBC Music Introducing Norfolk to talk about the choir and what we have been up to so far, you can catch the interview here.
African Choir of Norfolk’s inaugural performance will take place at the Hostry Festival on Friday 22nd October 2021. The audience will be treated to a rich repertoire of songs, colours, sounds and vibrance from the different nations of Africa.
The African Choir of Norfolk was founded in July 2019 as a new Signature Project of the Hostry Festival, and currently has a dedicated team of 20 members and still growing. This friendly group of women all come from a diverse background from Zimbabwe, Kenya, Eritrea, Ivory Coast, UK, Jamaica, Nigeria, Zambia, South Africa and many more.
We are grateful to have received funding from Awards For All for one year and which will cover costs for live rehearsals, costumes and the inaugural performance in October.
Not to be defeated by lockdown, extra funding was secured from Arts Council England and Arts La’Olam which enabled rehearsals to be transferred online empowering members to reach their full choral force in perfect harmonization. We currently meet on line once a month and hope to resume live sessions as soon as it is safe to do so. The African Choir of Norfolk is an ambitious and unique project and we are determined to see this dream come through.
